Strata

Live video from places one mobile connection can’t hold.

Strata sends your camera’s picture over several mobile networks at once and puts it back together in the cloud. Your race, match or event reaches YouTube or your own platform live, and stays live when one network drops.

Live One stream, three networks
When one network drops out, the others take its share. The picture eases back to what they can carry, then recovers, and your audience keeps watching. An illustration, not a recording.

One connection is rarely enough

At a circuit, a showground or a stadium, thousands of phones share the same masts, and coverage changes from one corner to the next. A connection that streams perfectly in the paddock can stall on the far side of the track, and your viewers are left watching a spinning wheel.

Strata combines several networks into one connection, which is known as bonding. Each piece of video goes over whichever network will deliver it soonest, and anything lost on the way is sent again or rebuilt from spare data that travels alongside it.

Several networks, one picture
Fit a modem and SIM for each mobile network. Strata spreads the stream across all of them.
Keeps going when one drops
If a network fades or disappears, the others carry the stream while it recovers.
Quality that follows the signal
Strata watches what each network can carry and sets the picture quality to match, so the stream bends rather than breaks.

How it works

From the camera to your audience in four steps. Set it up once, and each event after that starts from the Go Live button.

The path of a Strata stream: a camera feeds the encoder, the encoder sends over three mobile networks at once, the Strata cloud puts the stream back together and delivers it to YouTube or your platform over RTMP or SRT. YouTube RTMP SRT Camera Encoder Mobile networks Strata cloud Your audience

  1. Connect

Plug your camera’s HDMI output into the encoder, and fit a mobile modem with a SIM for each network.

  2. Pair

Sign in to your dashboard and type in the code the encoder shows. It is now linked to your account.

  3. Choose where it goes

Connect your YouTube channel, or add an RTMP or SRT address: the two standard ways platforms and broadcast servers take in a live stream.

  4. Go live

Press Go Live. Watch each network and the health of the stream as it runs, and replay the recording afterwards.

What you get

The connection, the cloud that delivers your stream, and one place to run it all.

  • Live delivery

Stream to YouTube, or to any platform or server that accepts RTMP or SRT.

  • Recording and replay

Each run is recorded, so you can watch it back. On Pro, each run comes with an analysis of what every network did and why the picture changed.

  • One dashboard

Start and stop streams, see every encoder and network at a glance, and invite the rest of your team.

  • Your data, in your hands

See, download and delete your own data whenever you like, without asking us. Turn recording off or keep recordings for less time. No advertising or tracking.

Who it is for

Anyone who needs a live picture from somewhere a single connection struggles.

  • Motorsport teams and clubs

Cover a circuit, a rally stage or a hill climb, where coverage comes and goes along the course. Strata is made by Racelogic, the company behind VBOX.

  • Event and sports streamers

Bring a match, a race meeting or a show to your audience from a field, a pitch or a crowded arena.

  • Small broadcasters

Send live pictures into your own production from anywhere with mobile coverage, over SRT or RTMP.

Questions

Anything else: support@strata.stream

What equipment do I need?

A camera with an HDMI output, an encoder running Strata (a small computer that takes the camera’s picture and sends it), and a USB mobile modem with a data SIM for each network you want to use. Email support@strata.stream to talk through a set-up for your events.

Which mobile networks should I use?

SIMs from different operators, where you can. Some operators share masts, and networks that share a mast tend to struggle at the same moment. The more independent your networks are, the better they cover for each other.

What happens if a network drops out?

The other networks carry the stream. If they can’t carry all of it, Strata lowers the picture quality to fit, then raises it again as the signal returns. The stream stops only if every network fails at once.

Where can I stream to?

YouTube, by connecting your channel, or any platform or server that takes RTMP or SRT. Set up your destinations once and choose one each time you go live.

What happens if I go over my hours?

Extra time is billed by the minute at the extra-hours rate. You choose a cap on that spending. When you reach it, new streams can’t start until you raise it, but a stream that is already live carries on to the end.

Who can see my footage?

The members of your organisation. Racelogic staff cannot reach your runs or footage through the service. You can delete recordings at any time, turn recording off, and download a copy of your data from your account. Privacy Policy

Can I cancel?

Yes, online at any time, and your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for. Your first subscription comes with 14 days’ money back, less any extra hours used.
